Community Playgroup - now incorporating Mainly Music too

The playgroup meets each Tuesday during term time at 9.00am through until 12 noon at the Greerton Bible Church Activities Centre, cnr Oropi/Chadwick Roads, Tauranga. The morning starts with the mainly music component which is loads of fun for children and adults alike.
As a Ministry of Education funded Playgroup the attending preschool children must be accompanied by parent(s) or caregiver to keep the ratio of adults to children within safe margins.  This funding falls far short of covering all our operational costs, so a small charge per child is required to cover such expenses. We are aware of the economic constraints of many families and keep this contribution affordable to all.

We aim to provide a relaxed and stimulating play environment for pre-schoolers. Children learn from hands on experience.  Activities involving play of various types are provided, catering to, among others, the language, manipulative, social, creative and physical development of the children. From time to time special events are created at the venue to enhance the children's experience.

We also provide a comfortable and supportive environment for parents. We seek to make sure everyone is valued and supported through the years of bringing up their small child(ren). This environment also provides social contact and networking for the adults attending, providing important interaction with families who may otherwise feel isolated. Morning tea snacks are also provided, for both children and adults.

Greerton Community Playgroup has Ministry of Education Certification.

To meet the ministry’s criteria the playgroup must demonstrate that

  • (a) the playgroup is effectively managed in accordance with good management practices;  and
  • (b) the playgroup is managed in a collaborative way with the parents and caregivers  involved; and
  • (c) appropriate written procedures and records are developed, maintained, and made  available when appropriate.
